Types of IPTV services and who each one suits

Not every IPTV service is trying to be the same thing. Some sell live channels, some sell a film library, some sell wholesale credits. Knowing which type you are looking at prevents most of the disappointment in this market.

Five types of IPTV service

Live-first services

Built around linear channels and sport. Judge them on peak-time stability and backup feeds; the on-demand catalogue is usually an afterthought. Suits: sport-first households.

VOD-first services

A large film and series library with live channels bolted on. Judge them on how recently titles were added and whether subtitles exist. Suits: box-set viewers.

Catch-up services

Rolling recordings of what already aired, typically over three to seven days. Rare, and the feature ex-cable customers miss most. Suits: anyone who watches after the fact.

Hybrid services

All three of the above on one line, which is what a complete service should mean. Suits: most households, this is the category Iptvpro sits in.

Wholesale and reseller services

Credits sold to people who resell lines rather than watch them. Judged on panel quality and margin, not on channel count. Suits: resellers, see our panel.

Restream services

Cheap lines resold from someone else’s panel with no infrastructure behind them. Judged on nothing, because they rarely last a season. Suits: nobody.

How to tell them apart before you pay

The type is usually visible in what the sales page emphasises. A live-first service leads with sport and channel counts. A VOD-first service leads with film posters. A hybrid leads with both and can produce numbers for each. A restream leads with price and nothing else.

Mixing services

Some households run a hybrid IPTV service alongside one mainstream streaming subscription, which covers original series that never appear on a channel. That combination usually still costs less than a satellite package on its own, and neither has a contract.

What we are

Iptvpro is a hybrid service run by the operator that owns the infrastructure: live channels, an on-demand library, seven-day catch-up and a reseller panel on the same platform. The service checklist sets out exactly what that includes, component by component.

Questions about IPTV services

What are the different types of IPTV services?

Live-first services built around channels and sport, VOD-first services built around a film library, catch-up services replaying what already aired, hybrid services combining all three, and wholesale services selling credits to resellers. A sixth category, restreams with no infrastructure, is best avoided.

Which type of IPTV service is best for me?

If you mainly watch sport, choose a live-first or hybrid service and test it at kick-off. If you mainly watch films and box sets, prioritise library size and subtitle coverage. Most households are best served by a hybrid service that does all three well.

Can I combine IPTV with Netflix or Disney+?

Yes, and many households do. An IPTV service covers live channels, sport and a large back catalogue, while a mainstream streaming subscription covers original series. Together they usually still cost less than a satellite package.

Do all IPTV services include catch-up?

No. Catch-up requires rolling recordings and storage, so it is one of the first features cheaper services drop. Iptvpro includes a seven-day window on the main channels across every plan.
